Event 13 - Harry Smith - Saxophone Recital

Making his Festival debut, Harry Fausing Smith who grew up near Malmesbury before moving to Manchester, is one of the most exciting young saxophonists in the UK today. As graduate of the RNCM and winner of their prestigious Concerto Competition he has performed on BBC Radio 3 and with Sir Harrison Birtwistle. A committed interdisciplinarian, he is equally at home in classical and popular styles, and comes to Calne Music and Arts Festival to present a programme which reflects his diverse interests: Phil Woods’ Sonata for Alto Saxophone, Larry Goves’ Skeins and Handel’s Trio Sonata in D (on a saxophone!)


Event 14 - Saxophonics

Saxophonics is a talented and versatile saxophone ensemble from Chippenham consisting of 13 players incorporating the saxophone range from soprano to baritone. They have performed in venues all over Wiltshire and are always guaranteed to get your foot tapping with their wide range of repertoire and varied programme of music, including classical, ragtime, swing and Latin styles. The group is led by their Musical Director Nicole Willis.
